Sara Renar

Softness as resistance. An architect’s precision applied to language, silence and sound.

Sara Renar builds with softness. In a cultural moment that rewards noise, acceleration and visibility, she has made the opposite choice: gentleness as resistance, bilingualism as a political stance, precision as her sharpest tool, the precision of an architect trained to understand that form is never neutral.

Born and based in Zagreb, Renar moves between Croatian and English not as a concession to the international market but as a deliberate act. Every word choice is a positioning, every silence a statement. She writes from a specific vantage point, the female voice in electronics, the intellectual in pop, the Southeast European artist in a market built around other centers, and has turned that position into the foundation of her work.

Her practice extends beyond the record. Since 2022 she has performed in a long-running theatrical production originally built around the songs of Arsen Dedić, one of the defining voices of Croatian cultural identity. Stepping into that tradition while dismantling its assumptions is not a contradiction. It is her method.

Her albums, most recently Nježne riječi (Gentle Words), produced with Jan Kinčl and recorded at CYCLE Studio, layer electronic pop, cinematic atmospheres and poetic songwriting into a world that is intimate, ironic and quietly defiant.
